Challenge
Long-time Lawrence Group clients SSM Health and Saint Louis University joined together to create a new facility that would be a springboard to plan their overall medical center campus for the next generation. The Lawrence Group team’s challenge was to help create a unified campus plan and world-class academic medical center on a tight, 12-acre urban site with a non-negotiable deadline for completion.
Solution
At the heart of the new facility, the design team created green space and an outdoor courtyard with plans for further development to connect to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. To respond to the schedule, the team was able to procure subcontractors halfway through schematic design, issue early civil packages and utilize mock-ups and virtual reality to accelerate the design process. The project broke ground in August 2017 and opened on schedule and within budget on September 1, 2020.
