Lawrence Group, with associate architect Corgan, was recently selected for the University of St. Thomas New Student Residence Hall Project in Houston, Texas. The project includes a feasibility study on two proposed construction sites and the design of an approximate six-floor, more than 130,000 square feet student housing facility to accommodate 400 residents.
The new Residence Hall will include suite-style units featuring shared kitchen and living spaces with single and double-occupancy bedrooms attached, each with access to natural light and bathrooms, as well as various communal spaces for gathering, fitness, prayer, study, and more. The building has portions of three levels and a core area of 5 stories with great views of downtown Houston.
The project will enable the University of St. Thomas to double its current student resident capacity. UST currently serves nearly 4,000 students and is on a trajectory to increase enrollment to 7,000 by 2030. This new residence hall will create a unique experience that reinforces UST’s Catholic mission and identity through a vibrant city-like housing complex that engages and promotes social, spiritual, and academic interaction and activity.
The construction is a concrete structure with post-tension slabs and concrete shear walls. The exterior skin consists of cast stone on the first floor and full-height feature walls with a brick blend that is consistent with the campus aesthetics.
The project is expected to complete in the Spring of 2027.
