Gustavus Adolphus College

Gustavus Adolphus College is a private college in St. Peter, Minnesota, with a total of 2,250 students and a four-year on-campus living requirement. KWK Architects, a Lawrence Group company, in association with BWBR, was commissioned to provide a strategic study of the college’s entire housing stock as well as to evaluate and address the university’s student life strategy. The study encompassed a multitude of crucial aspects, each playing a vital role in the overall strategic planning:

  • Facilities assessment and recommendations to bring the utilities and residential spaces to current standards and students’ expectations.
  • Evaluated the entire current student distribution on campus and provided alternatives to promote social interaction and a stronger college community.
  • Evaluated and provided potential amenities needed in each residence hall to promote community inside the residence halls.
  • Proposed phasing approach to light renovation in some buildings, heavy renovation in other buildings (changing from individual double bedrooms to suites), and proposed a new residence hall to house the students displaced by remodeling and reconfiguring units campus-wide.

The study and recommendations were submitted to the Board of Trustees in February 2024.
