Following the successful completion of the original Broadway DoubleTree Hotel in 2013, the project team began discussing a potential expansion to grow the hotel’s conference and event capacity while meeting ever-rising demand in the vibrant college town. After years of planning, work began on the hotel’s new Walnut Tower in 2023.
The Lawrence Group design team was challenged with matching and evolving the interior design language of the original hotel, finding new ways to realize the “Harvest of Life” theme through the unique surroundings of Columbia. A rich, mature color palette is embodied through modern, organic forms; tactile wood walls adorn the pre-function spaces and lobby, while a flowing carpet pattern pulls inspiration from the nearby Missouri River. New guest rooms further build on the design aesthetic through a calming, earthy material selections, allowing the bolder color selections in the common spaces to truly pop.
The new eight-story building includes 80 guest rooms and a top-floor meeting space with Skyfold partition, seamlessly connecting to The Roof Bar in the original building’s Broadway Tower. Lower levels implemented additional meeting/conference spaces, including a new high-finish board room. Opening in time to meet the demand of the 2025 Mizzou academic year, the hotel nearly doubles the original Broadway Hotel capacity while further establishing the hotel as a premiere hospitality destination in the Columbia community.
