Austin Community College KAZI

Lawrence Group completed work on the design of a new 2,400 SF broadcasting headquarters for KAZI Community Radio within Austin Community College’s Highland Campus. The new design incorporates a radio station, offices, storage, reception, interview and production rooms, a broadcast room, and a flexible social media/performance space, providing KAZI with the physical resources needed for the next generation of community radio production.

A key design goal was for the project to highlight KAZI’s brand identity, creating a welcoming and functional environment for staff and visitors alike. To maximize usable space, circulation was minimized to a single aisle, allowing all program areas to branch efficiently from one core path. This approach provided the most programmable square footage within a compact footprint. The interior design was intentionally bold and energetic to reflect KAZI’s vibrant brand identity and create an engaging atmosphere. Acoustic design played a crucial role in isolating the studio from surrounding spaces to maintain sound quality. Additionally, integrated AV infrastructure enhanced the studio’s flexibility and broadcast capabilities, supporting future growth for the station’s diverse programming.
