Challenge
The City of Georgetown wanted to convert a former 1980s library into the new City Hall Office Building, consisting primarily of office space for city agencies and small multi-function spaces for community use. The building would require extensive renovation and some expansion to accommodate the desired programmatic functions.
Solution
Lawrence Group infilled the tiered southern portion of the original library to create space for approximately 50 offices and workstations with access to conference rooms and support spaces including break rooms, waiting and lobby space. A prominent lobby space was created at the east end of the building, incorporating clerestory windows and public art with essential access control and reception functions. A plaza was created between City Hall and the Municipal Court building directly to the south, providing opportunities for community events and engagement.
