Elm Tree Funds

Challenge

Amidst a period of exponential growth, Elm Tree Funds sought to create a workplace that could support the long-term needs of their business. As the flagship workplace of the Forsyth Pointe mixed-use development, Elm Tree’s commitment to their staff is on full display; their new offices increase operating efficiencies while amplifying the firm’s rich culture, embracing cutting-edge design to help their team flourish.

Solution

A guiding ethos within the design team was to create a space that feels organic and promotes wellness for Elm Tree staff. This belief is realized through the “leaf-like” layout of the office, where the main artery of circulation and common spaces leads to discrete Work Pods. The improved wayfinding of the new program emphasizes common areas such as the cafe and collaborative workspaces, encouraging staff to make full use of the flexible office. Inspired by current trends in high-end hospitality, these “12-hour spaces” are considered the heart of the Elm Tree’s design; lunch is catered daily in the cafe and amenities are abundant throughout the office, providing ample opportunities for connection amongst staff.

Extensive visioning studies led to the implementation of Work Pods; designed around principles of efficiency and flexibility, these enclaves encourage open collaboration within smaller business groups while offering privacy and seclusion from the office at large. Seamless integration of technology throughout the office further promotes flexibility through solutions such as such as plug-and-play conference room setups and granular light controls. Right-sized office layouts and flexible furniture plans allow for future customization based on the evolving needs of Elm Tree’s workforce, returning value over time by avoiding common office inefficiencies.

Lawrence Group worked diligently with Elm Tree Funds to ensure their needs were met through every phase of the project. A detailed space study revealed key issues in their former office, addressed in the new design. 3D modeling and BIM visioning accelerated design development by providing detailed renders of the proposed plans. Close coordination throughout design and construction allowed Elm Tree to adopt upscale finishes while being conscious of budget, delivering the final project 17% under its estimated cost.

Elm Tree Funds have reported strong staff satisfaction since occupying their new office, supporting the return to in-person work and ongoing recruitment efforts as the firm continues its trajectory of success.
