Designing Five Iron Golf in Clayton required integrating high-tech golf simulators and lively social spaces within an existing shell space. A full glass storefront wall limited placement options for simulators, which need lighting control and acoustic separation. The layout of the 10 simulators needed to offer additional options for group events that felt intimate and flexible. The layout demanded thoughtful zoning to balance serious play with casual entertainment. The design also had to uphold Five Iron’s national brand standards while capturing the upscale character of Clayton and incorporating regionally specific elements to connect with the local community.
The design embraced the street-level retail space in the heart of Clayton and emphasizes openness and connection, with expansive storefront windows that flood the interior with natural light and offer a visual dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric. We partnered with local graphic artists and muralists to create custom, St. Louis-inspired artwork that adds vibrancy and authenticity throughout the space. Unique to this location, the simulators are arranged in flexible groupings that support private events, reinforcing our focus on social connection, adaptability, and experience-driven design.
