Fred Pirkle Engineering Technology Center

Challenge

With a generous donation and vision for the future, Sam Houston State University alumnus Fred Pirkle presented the University with a gracious challenge: create an inviting, collaborative learning center with state-of-the-art engineering technology and specialized teaching capabilities.

Solution

Equipped with inspiration and a dedication to honor Fred Pirkle’s legacy, the design team created an innovative learning center that serves as a gateway to Sam Houston State University’s Huntsville campus. The new facility centers around a two-story, collaborative innovation lab with multi-level observation areas to create a seamless flow of learning from the classroom to hands-on experience.

In addition to the main innovation lab, the four-story facility features state-of-the-art collaborative classrooms, laboratories and faculty offices designed to enhance the instruction of engineering, technology and agricultural sciences with specialized hands-on workshops for manufacturing, electronics, robotics and sustainable energy.
