G. B. Dealey Center for New Media

Challenge

Due to the continued growth and development of the College of Communication, The University of Texas at Austin set out to add a new state-of-the-art facility to reflect the changing nature of broadcast journalism and enhance collaboration between the various departments and the community.

Solution

The 112,000-square foot G.B. Dealey Center for New Media serves as a gateway to The University of Texas campus in Austin. Utilizing materials common throughout the campus, the building establishes a visual link to the modernist design of the adjacent College of Communication complex while a pedestrian bridge physically connects the new campus addition.

The building includes studio and production facilities, multipurpose classrooms, lecture halls, research labs and collaborative public spaces that provide state-of-the-art facilities that encourage hands-on teaching, learning and research. In addition, the new facility is home to KUT Public Media Studios, integrating multi-media production facilities and highlighting Austin’s rich music scene.
