Northern Michigan University, New Residence Hall

Northern Michigan University was looking to increase its student housing capacity. This recently approved project introduces two new apartment-style residence halls totaling approximately 165,000 SF to provide an additional 408 beds. Each four-story apartment building consists of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and four-bedroom apartments with ADA-compliant amenities.

Located between the City of Marquette and the NMU campus, the buildings create a new gateway to the university along this important urban edge while strengthening the connection between campus and community. Designed to enhance the student living experience, each residence hall includes first-floor study lounges, fitness rooms, spacious community lounges with fireplaces, and outdoor terraces beneath covered canopies. Each building also provides dedicated student parking.

This project began in Fall 2025 in partnership with Greystar as the developer. The residence halls are scheduled to open for the Fall 2027 semester.
