In 2014, Northwestern Mutual engaged Lawrence Group in the design of their new regional office, introducing a neighborhood-style layout with hospitality-inspired design elements. Northwestern Mutual experienced a period of unprecedented growth over the coming the decade, and after witnessing the rapidly evolving standards for workplace design and technology within that time period, re-engaged Lawrence Group for an expansion and refresh of the space.
The updated Northwestern Mutual offices build upon the previous design aesthetic while subtly enhancing overall functionality. New phone rooms have been added to address the growing use of virtual meetings. Renovations to key areas such as the lobby, work cafe, and training rooms include updated finishes, added seating capacity, and improved digital conferencing capabilities.
Paramount to the refresh is the introduction of immersive branded graphics in the office’s central path. The History Wall details the firm’s local history and the company’s national story through an experiential showpiece, weaving together a mix of milestones, archival imagery, and color-coded graphics. An accompanying Family Wall showcases employees and their families, while additional graphics reinforce Northwestern Mutual’s employee-first culture to staff, recruits, and visitors alike.
