Gary C. Werths Building at Siteman Cancer Center

Washington University School of Medicine’s new Gary C. Werths Building at Siteman Cancer Center realizes a bold vision for patient-centered care; the cutting-edge, 659,000-square-foot facility offers comprehensive outpatient cancer care informed by hospitality best practices, blending state-of-the-art technology with robust amenities to support each patient’s healing journey.

To realize this ambitious vision, Lawrence Group partnered with Perkins Eastman to produce a cutting-edge design for the facility. The final program centralizes exam and specialty spaces for an efficient patient experience, with color-coded wings on each floor providing easy wayfinding for visitors. Numerous connections to nature and extensively curated local artwork create a healing atmosphere, with the unique terrace gardens providing calming views of nature for patients awaiting or receiving care. The center brings together clinical services, including radiation oncology, infusion therapy, clinical trials, and diagnostic imaging all under one roof, fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary care teams.

Operating under the Siteman Cancer Center banner, the new flagship facility serves patients of Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Jewish Hospital from throughout the region. Its advanced design and robust network of services will ensure healing outcomes for years to come – while leaving a striking mark on the urban fabric of St. Louis.
